Hong Kong 11 to 17 March (Day 1)

March 18, 2012

Our much awaited March school holiday came and we were off to Hong Kong!

Our flight was at 630am on Sunday. While Zann had her early rest on Sat night, Daddy and I didn’t sleep at all. We packed until 2plus before preparing to leave house by 4am. Despite having to wake up at 3am, Zann didn’t complained lack of sleep. She was extremely excited.

Getting a GPS signal during the flight.

First thing touching down was to get the local sim card. So that we can contact each other and  convenient  internet access.

CSL MicroSim HKD98 with 7 days unlimited internet access, inclusive of HKD10 of local sms and phone call.

We bought the round trip ticket which was slightly cheaper. The adult ticket cost HKD33 and the child ticket cost HKD16.50.

We took Bus A21 to the hotel.

Butterfly On Prat is only 5mins walk from Tsim Sha Tsui MTR.

It was a rainy cold weather with 12C. After putting down our bags, we went for our late lunch. We decided to try Tsui Wah Restaurant which was so near our hotel.

I find the food at Tsui Wah expensive and not nice. Not worth going back again.

We went around exploring MongKok after lunch. By then it was already late evening. We didn’t want to go far, so we decided to do a quick shopping around Ladies Market, Fa Yuen Market and Argyle Centre (Mongkok Centre). It was super crowded on that Sunday evening. The sight of so many people made me so sian to continue.

I suggested going back to hotel to rest. Both Zann and I were tired to continue. Daddy wanted to try the dim sum at TIm Ho Wan for dinner. We took a long time searching for the shop at Central.

Zann didn’t want to eat.  So it’s Daddy and me finishing the food. I think we ate a lot on the first day already.

We went to Butterfly Park and Insect Kingdom.

Dinner @ 外婆的家

March 4, 2012

All are Zann’s favourite dishes specially prepared by 外婆.

家常菜

February 26, 2012

(Homemade Ngoh Hiang)

It’s fun preparing Ngoh Hiang. Chicken curry (Daddy’s favourite) and Zann’s asking for tailed-fish. Each time we had curry for meal, Zann will have her own set of soup, her favourite ABC soup or spinach with scallop soup.

‘Lending and Borrowing”

February 23, 2012

There’s this girl, Wenxuan sitting behind Zann in the class. She would borrow Zann’s pencil everyday. I have known this since the start of the semester. Initially, I took it as a small issue. Just a lending and borrowing kind of thing between the girls. I even said yes to Zann when she brought her cartoon characters pencils to school.

However, this matter escalated into one big issue.

Zann came crying to me said she didn’t want to go to school anymore. Wenxuan, using her leader status in class, had threatened Zann to provide her pencil everyday. If not, she will tell the class teacher. I was very unhappy learning what had happened. This is something a 7 yo kid shouldn’t behave. The threatening part sound like bullying!

So I wrote in to Zann’s class teacher, had an hour conversation over the phone with her.

This morning, the class teacher updated me what had happened.

Dear Zann’s mummy,

As spoken, I’ve investigated the matter and establish eye witnesses. The facts that I could establish with all the children were:

1) Wen Xuan did borrow pencils from Zann.
(As classmates saw Wenxuan borrowing but no one heard Wen Xuan threatening Zann or spoiling the pencils, I reinforced the message that ‘leaders’ must be able to serve others through caring acts and encouraging others. Otherwise they will not be chosen/suitable.)

Follow-up action:

1) Called Wenxuan’s mum to inform her about the incident.
2) Did a role play between Wen Xuan and Zann to equip Zann with the platform to say ‘No’ when encountered with such a situation.
3) Did a closure wih Wen Xuan saying sorry to Zann. A written note of apology is attached to Zann’s Handbook.
4) Class is reminded to only ‘borrow’ stationery from Mdm Wee.
5) 5 new pencils are put in Zann’ bag.

An hour later, the class teacher informed me again that Zann lent her pencil to one boy during the Mother Tongue lesson.

There’s no ending to this, even when I had given my stern warning to Zann.

Happy Valentine’s Day !

February 14, 2012

Daddy and I spent our quiet dinner at Si Chuan Dou Hua @ UOB. Daddy chose the UOB branch for it’s nice view from 60th storey. Food was not bad although the price  range was on the higher side.

Daddy loves their homemade beancurd noodle soup with dumpling. But I don’t like cos it just taste like ban mian except their noodle is made of beancurd.

We have been together for 7 years!

In the last 7 years, we hardly spent our Valentines’ Day. With so many changes happened last year, I looked back, this year was the first time we had our own quiet dinner together on Valentine’s Day.  I look forward to the time, with just two of us again.

Catching up over lunch

February 10, 2012

It’s great to have lunch with people you have not seen for sometime. Friends, good food cheap and good finds. Seriously, how not to love Chinatown for these reasons… :)

And not forgetting my favourite prawn noodle, from Hong Lim Food Centre.

Huayi Festival : Mulan The Legendary Heroine

February 5, 2012

Zann attended the interactive storyhouse performance, together with Daddy.

Progress

February 4, 2012

When the school informed us of a briefing in Feb,  I marked down on the calendar that we had a session with Zann’s teacher. This briefing was useful because we got to know Zann’s learning environment and how she can do her revision online.

Banned: Miss Clarity Cafe

February 4, 2012

A Lunch date with MF.

Ala Carte Buffet. The first and also the last time I would come back again. Lackluster service with incomplete food served. OMG, we actually spent inside more than 2 hours. That’s the worst. It’s not even worth paying $25, on top of $2.50 service charge (Orginal $45+) for the kind of food u see here. Will you ? Lousy la. We should have eaten something better than these. :(
