A little reward does give children an encouragement and focus.

…… from the bookstore, except the Smurf toy.

The girl passed me her new concession card when she reached home. She looked so different with her hair tucked behind her ears. I asked her why she didn’t smile. She told me she prefer me to take photo of her instead. Silly girl.
There’s this girl, Wenxuan sitting behind Zann in the class. She would borrow Zann’s pencil everyday. I have known this since the start of the semester. Initially, I took it as a small issue. Just a lending and borrowing kind of thing between the girls. I even said yes to Zann when she brought her cartoon characters pencils to school.
However, this matter escalated into one big issue.
Zann came crying to me said she didn’t want to go to school anymore. Wenxuan, using her leader status in class, had threatened Zann to provide her pencil everyday. If not, she will tell the class teacher. I was very unhappy learning what had happened. This is something a 7 yo kid shouldn’t behave. The threatening part sound like bullying!
So I wrote in to Zann’s class teacher, had an hour conversation over the phone with her.
This morning, the class teacher updated me what had happened.
Dear Zann’s mummy,
As spoken, I’ve investigated the matter and establish eye witnesses. The facts that I could establish with all the children were:
1) Wen Xuan did borrow pencils from Zann.
(As classmates saw Wenxuan borrowing but no one heard Wen Xuan threatening Zann or spoiling the pencils, I reinforced the message that ‘leaders’ must be able to serve others through caring acts and encouraging others. Otherwise they will not be chosen/suitable.)
Follow-up action:
1) Called Wenxuan’s mum to inform her about the incident.
2) Did a role play between Wen Xuan and Zann to equip Zann with the platform to say ‘No’ when encountered with such a situation.
3) Did a closure wih Wen Xuan saying sorry to Zann. A written note of apology is attached to Zann’s Handbook.
4) Class is reminded to only ‘borrow’ stationery from Mdm Wee.
5) 5 new pencils are put in Zann’ bag.

An hour later, the class teacher informed me again that Zann lent her pencil to one boy during the Mother Tongue lesson.
There’s no ending to this, even when I had given my stern warning to Zann.
When the school informed us of a briefing in Feb, I marked down on the calendar that we had a session with Zann’s teacher. This briefing was useful because we got to know Zann’s learning environment and how she can do her revision online.

Everyday I would check with Zann what she eat during recess time. These few days she gave me the same answer. One fishball. YES! it’s only one fishball. And I was shocked at first. How could the girl not feel hungry at all when she only have milk in the morning. Initially I wasn’t happy to know that she spent all her pocket money in the bookshop during the 2nd week.
The idea of waking up early to prepare bento crossed my mind.

Inside, I prepared her french toast with cheese along with some fruits.
She’s asking for this everyday.

Last week, with school in full swing, Zann returned with homework, spelling list and ting xie list. She didn’t learn hanyu pinyin during her K2 chinese class in kindergarten and childcare. Now that I remember when asked. Daddy and I don’t recall seeing any hanyu pinyin in the excercise books returned back to us after each term ended last year. Neither did Chinese Teacher Guan spoke to Daddy on Zann’s progress during the parents-teacher session.
Daddy told me that Zann had expressed many times last year, asking for me to take care of her at home. Hearing that, I feel guilty about not spending enough time on her progress in school last year since Sept. Many times, I keep thinking, can I really not work? I wish.
Sun. Church, Spring cleaning, ting xie and Spelling revision.
So much to do, yet so little time.

Zann threw her tantrum, refused to learn and write while I was preparing lunch.
I think I am too anxious getting her to grasp the hanyu pinyin tingxie fast without getting her to understand the concept.

8 hours later, she finally got the concept.
All correct when I tested her twice on last night.
She even rewarded herself with so many stickers.
Ok, I just have to do it slow and patiently.
This morning, she passed me a card:

I opened it up and saw all the hanyu pinyin inside.

I am getting worried about her not adapting well since she was not exposed to hanyu pin yin. My chinese also not that fantastic. Plus I am also clueless about how to go about teaching her chinese. I feel so stressed while Daddy took it easy.

Zann and her P3 buddy

Where’s Zann ?

Daddy and I had our lunch in the school canteen. $4.50 for adult portion.

Today marked the first day of School. Zann starts her Pri One today ! The first three days are the bonding days with the teachers, her classmates and parents.

No hiccups. Everything went smoothly.
Actually parents were not allowed to go near the classroom premises,
but I still took a snapshot secretly.

Zann followed her Pri 3 buddy and ordered her own lunch.

The girl told me that she is looking forward to school. Ah well. I am happy to hear that.
Daddy and I have been waiting for this day…

Today we went to Zann’s Primary One Orientation.
The teachers and prefects led the children to their classrooms while the parents were seated in the hall where the presentation started.

Before leaving, Daddy and I explored the school compound by ourselves.
