Seeking the toilet bowl …

March 1, 2009

toilet_bowlThis morning we had breakfast at the community centre near our place. Why? Because the toilets in the CC are cleaner.

Frankly, having an early breakfast at the community centre was not a bad idea. With the passing vehicles and the morning breeze to enjoy. While Zann had her take-away Mc kiddy meal, me and daddy had packed fried beehoon.

Fast forward to the time when I assisted Zann to go to the wee. Initially, she didn’t want to sit on the bowl. She felt insecured having her legs dangling in the air. But I told her I would support her. Fortunately, there was no hiccup, she listened with no time wasted.

It’s a different story  after I have brought her to the level 5′s kiddy toilet bowl in White Sands. And it was level 5 all the way. There were two times she insisted going back even after we had left. Bringing her to the toilets at other levels was no use. She would rather endure till we went back home.

Please be assured that I am growing up, even though I may be acting stubborn at times.

Please let me be dependent on you even though I may act independent at times.

Please continue to watch and protect me even though there are times I insist on doing things myself.

Please enforce sensible rules on me to keep me disciplined even though I may misbehave and say “No” to you.

Please expect me to think of other people’s feelings and wants at all times even though I  may not follow what you said.

Potty-trained

February 21, 2009

So my efforts were finally paid off.

Zann was diaperless in the school today. Including doing the first trial last night too. Preciously there were so many times which she refused to wear the underwears I have bought for her. But after so many rounds of persuasion and using online games as a reward, she finally listens.

She was hooked on Peep and The Big Wide World for now.

You can imagine how happy I was when she told me she wanted to pee after she woke up this morning. I quickly brought her to the toilet bowl. Both of us were even hugging each other and clapping as well.

Eh…wait. We haven’t tested the going out part. Not all public toilets are children-friendly. Maybe I should let her try the squat bowl if i can find one. We shall see how.

When she becomes irritating

January 12, 2009

Sometimes it’s a chore when I am outside with Zann. It’s even hard work when I face challenging times from her. Even though she doesn’t have a habit of pestering me to buy toys, she will not leave the place if she sees something she adores.

And that’s when I find her irritating.

She refused to give up that blue truck, even though her face told me that she’s tired. Since she’s not moving, I got her a stool. The 15 minutes of waiting paid off.

I did not enjoy this moment when she actually sat in the mid of carpark. I lost my temper and raised my voice at her. Both of us had invited the un-neccessary attention. She has sat there for about 20 mins.

Rent that toy !

December 3, 2008

It’s my first time renting a toy for Zann. And I rented from Rent-that-Toy. Look what I got for her? The lovely kitchen set with a ‘built-in’ washing machine, microwave oven and ironing board as well. Wow, I am impressed. (I never had something like this in my childhood days). After all, Zann never owns such a ‘big’ toy before. For $35 a month, this is definitely economical.

And yes, Zann was so happy when she saw her ‘new’ toy. I am eyeing the mini slide and tricycle next.

Thumb sucking

thumb

The more I nagged, asking her to stop,  Zann never listens. Even when the skin has started tearing, she still continues to suck her thumb. The rubbing on padi-chilli or the bandaging method never worked either. This afternoon she was telling me her thumb was painful

How to make this habit go?

Mis-understood

I hear it as 为什么 whenever she says, want some more. After hearing several times for many days, I finally got her message!

It’s time for me to pay more attention to what she says.

The crying episode

October 5, 2008

I gave in when she was sick those few days. (I wasn’t firm enough)

Now that she has recovered, she’s spending even more time
in front of the TV.

Refusing to take my ‘No’ for the answer, I switched off the main switch connected to the TV. The 30mins long of wailing and screaming even attracted our neighbour, an old granny over our place. She was wondering why Zann has cried until so cham !

“Where’s my bowl ?”

September 24, 2008

Today’s dinner was served on a new plate. I bought it sometime back, which I have forgotten to use. My first thought – She will sure like it.

But when I saw her flinging the fish, I knew it.

“不要玩了,快点吃”
“不要,不要这个”

Using the spoon to tap the plate, and pointing to the dish rack, she was telling me she wanted her bowl. And It’s the bowl she always uses.

Hmm…so what’s wrong with that plate ?
