Matching numbers

September 27, 2010

This evening,  Zann was playing the matching numbers game. The objective is to link every matching numbers without crossing the lines. It may sounds easy but gets complicated when I increased the numbers.

The completed one.

And the incomplete one.

The girl was confused by the maze of lines she created.

Learning subtraction through target game

September 27, 2010

Materials: Paper and marker, two pennies (self created), twenty paper clips.

Objective: To rid the paper clips, that is getting into the subtraction process.

Zann enjoys this game so much that we had many rounds. It’s fun learning subtraction through play. :)

Zann’s diary : Feelings

September 15, 2010

It was an unintentional spill today.

The girl’s dinner was all over the floor.

And it was also this incident which I got to know how it affected the girl. I was discussing on the topic of feelings with the girl. When I asked what do ‘afraid’ and ‘sad’ means to her,  and this was the respond I received:

Her confession makes me feel guilty.

Zann’s diary: I want to…

September 7, 2010

I started Zann on writing a diary. A learning book where she writes and draws from her thoughts and what she has learnt. I discuss with her and then spell out the words for her.

The superhero idea came from cartoon network she follows everyday.

I got this book from Popular couple of months back. This book is good for doing revision with what Zann has learnt in school. She can go on for 5 pages at a time.

Eye Test

August 17, 2010

Earlier this year, there was a letter from the school which informed us Zann would be having her eyes tested. A routine test which we think she shouldn’t  skip.

So, the conclusion of the test was NORMAL.

But how normal ??

And this was the search result I googled:

What is considered normal vision?

Normal visual acuity is 6/6. Just a size which considered
The first number represents the test distance, 6 metres. The second number represents the certain size of Snellen letter on the eye chart.

A rough comparison of Visual Acuity on Eye test chart

6/3           Not many people achieve this – sniper perhaps
6/4.5         Excellent
6/6           Normal standard
6/7.5         Able to see telex text on TV
6/9
6/10          Driving standard equivalent
6/12
6/15
6/30
6/60

Zann’s result showed that her left eye (6/9.5) is ‘ higher’  than the right eye.  We need to limit her time on televsion and computer. (I feel so guilty….)

Zann definitely needs to practice more .

Read

July 1, 2010

She was so mighty pleased with herself after getting a few praises from me.

There’s no other better way to pick up words is READ. Zann’s level of confidence goes up each time she got the words correct. And that encouraged her to read further.

It’s not easy to find a book which she likes. Now that the due date is drawing near, I ll hv to search thoroughly again.
