What do you do when the weather is hot ?

April 25, 2011

WE  love anything cold and icy.

And yes, I enjoy late night grocery shopping. Most importantly, away from the crowd.

Bubur Cha Cha

August 31, 2010

I *heart* dessert with added coconut milk. Bubor Cha Cha is another one of my favourite which I find it so hard to resist. Oh I love it. Except Zann and Daddy.

My version of bubor cha cha has only one colour of sweet potatoes. The wet market and NTUC doesn’t sell the orange and purple types. Can’t make the colourful bubor cha cha I had in mind.  So I decided to make PINK tapioca jelly.

I experimented using banana fruit.

Total preparation took me almost an hour and another 30 mins to cook.

Of all the ingredients, Zann only ate sweet potatoes and PINK tapioca jelly. Daddy loves the yam while I finished everything. :)

Black sticky rice dessert (orh bee)

August 30, 2010

You can refer them as black glutinous rice dessert or bubur pulut hitam. But I am used to call them orh bee. One of my favourite tong shui I never fail to order. I went searching for black glutinous rice among the neighbourhood place. Wah…and it’s so cheap. A packet of 200g costs $1.

How to check whether they are of good or bad quality? Or are they all the same?

Time taken to boil : 2 hours.  Perhaps slow cooker can do it better. But all of  us were tot eager to wait.

Finally, with the coconut milk. This really makes a difference. NICE.

All of us had many servings. Extremely full.

Sweet Potato Cake

November 30, 2009

Zann and I ended up eating first before waiting for it to stiffen into shape. :D Sweet and satisfying. We saved some for Daddy although it was very tempting to finish all. :)

Recipe

Peel and boil diced 250g sweet potatoes in a saucepan until tender. Drain and mash until smooth, and set aside. Boil 180ml water with 2 tbsp sugar . Sprinkle 2 tsp of gelatin and mix well. Pour the mixture over the  sweet mashed potatoes. Refrigerate for 3 hours until firm.

Making Ondeh Ondeh

March 8, 2009

onde

I love Ondeh Ondeh, especially the explosion of the palm sugar in the mouth when served warm. Sweet and good experience. This was my first attempt making them. Zann enjoyed the process of kneading the dough with me too.

Homemade sesame balls

January 4, 2009

sesameballs

We had these deep dried sesame balls for snack. It’s not easy to get the tau sar (red bean paste) because I had to travel and buy from Phoon Huat.
