The new IXUS 95 IS has arrived to our local shores, and we are fortunate enough to be the lucky few bloggers to “test-drive” this new gadget! Not forgetting the Selphy CP780 photo printer as well, both in splashy red!
The IXUS product line has came a long way since the days of my old trusty Canon IXUS 55 (since 2004). Indeed, this IXUS family has improved in heaps over the years, though the overall design remains the same. I suppose we do not see much change to the layout, simply because it is probably it is already the best that can be offered.
When I first took it out of the box, I was amazed by how light-weight it was as compared to my previous IXUS 55. Finally my neck gets a better rest! At first glance and touch, I really fell in love with the design. As usual, the 2.5” LCD screen is flushed to the left and the function buttons to the right. The usual battery and SD slot sits at the bottom of the camera. This camera is available in 6 different splashes namely gray, silver, orange, red, blue and green.

The new features which I like most are the the Smart Auto Mode and the Smart Auto Shooting mode.
The Smart Auto mode uses Canon’s latest Scene Detection Technology to determine subject brightness, contrast, distance and overall hue, including the ability to differentiate between day-time and low-light (night time) scenarios for an effortless capture of the better picture. This is especially useful to take snapshots of Zann when she moves around.
The Smart Auto Shooting mode, was instantly discovered when I pressed the shoot button. Which means I do not have to manually switch on the macro mode when the camera goes near the subject.

Next to the Selphy CP780 compact photo printer! This delightful nifty photo printer allows me to print photos at my convenience. After all, I am so used to not going to the photo print shop to get my prints developed, with the exception during the era of film cameras years back.
Printing works as simply as inserting the SD memory card into the photo printer and the 2.5” LCD viewfinder enabled my choice of prints. All other major memory card inputs are also available on the CP780, so that printing is hassle-free. Navigation is simply via the cute rubberized squarish buttons.

Being a mac user, fortunately the software provided is user friendly. There are many cute and eye catchy templates to choose from. I have created my own printouts as shown in the shots.
The printer itself comes with image optimiser and red eye correction, meaning if there’s a red eye image, what I will see on the digital still is not what I will get. ^-^
It is also possible to purchase an optional battery pack, so that I can carry this photo printer everywhere I go (not forgetting the matching cartridge, photo tray and the usb cable).
